The Best Sunscreens for Summer

Every summer, I do a sunscreen refresh and keep many types of formulas on hand for myself and family. It's the one beauty product that is a priority on my list in the warmer months. And, we know that the sun's harmful rays are the biggest ager so slathering on SPF is not a bad idea year round. I personally prefer mineral formulas, especially for my face as some chemical formulas can irritate my sensitive skin. There are hundreds of sunscreen varieties out on the market today with new ones launching all the time that are good for you and the environment.

Below I've rounded up a few of my current favorite sunscreens in time for your summer travels:

Sun Bum SPF 50 Face Sunscreen Lotion — I got hooked on Sun Bum in Hawaii a few years ago (the hotel stocked it in their pool area) and it's the one brand my kids and husband like to use on their face and body. Free of oxybenzone, it's lightweight, oil free, moisturizing with vitamin E and aloe and doesn't irritate my sensitive skin. Plus, it leaves a nice matte finish.

C'EST MOI Mineral Face and Body Lotion SPF 45 — I love a mineral sunscreen for my sensitive skin, but I don't like when they leave a white residue. This one is for both the face and body with a blend of zinc oxide and fruit extracts so it goes on smooth and leaves no ghostly cast.

Neturogena Invisible Daily defense SPF 30 — A drugstore favorite brand for its strong UVA/UVB protection, this one is also reef safe, water resistant and rubs in easily.

SuperGoop Glow Screen SPF 40 — For those looking for a lit from within glow while protecting from the sun's harmful rays this clean face SPF acts as a primer, which you can wear under makeup or on its own. When I wear this, I always get compliments on how nice my skin looks.

BARE Republic ClearsScreen SPF 50 — A spray for the body is always in my beach bag and this clean one by BARE is infused with vitamin E and moisturizing oils. It goes on clear, so rubbing in is a breeze.

Shiseido Ulimate Sun Protector Cream SPF 50 — I've been a fan of Shiseido's sunscreens for years and love their hydrating lightweight formulas. The facial formula strengthens itself once exposed to heat, sweat or water so it's great for throwing in your beach bag and bringing it with you on those perfect outdoor summer days.

Neutrogena UltraSheer Face & Body Stick SPF 70 —A powerful stick for hard to reach spots works great in a pinch and for reapplying to certain areas on the face that need a little more care. It also leaves no residue and blends in quickly.
