How Dr. Marina Peredo Keeps Her Skin Looking Youthful

She performs injectables like an artist, sculpts in her free time and swears by a technique based off Renaissance master Leonardo DaVinci.  New York dermatologist Marina Peredo, MD has been in the field for over 20 years and with a new intimate office on Manhattan’s Upper East Side she’ll offer patients the latest treatments to help them look and feel younger. Here she shares her favorite in-office treatments, the dreamy destinations she escapes to and her simple skin care routine.

1. You just opened an office on Manhattan’s Upper East Side as well as having a practice out on Long Island. Why did you decide to open the new office?

For years, I thought about opening a practice in NYC and had my eye on the Skinfluence location. When it became available, I decided it was now or never. I wanted to create an ambiance that is comfortable, intimate and elegant—a place where patients are able to feel relaxed while undergoing their personal metamorphosis.

2. What are some of your favorite treatments to perform?

Neurotoxins and fillers rank at the top of my list right now and I often combine these with Ultherapy to lift and define. Injecting cheeks and lips provides instant gratification for both me and my patients as the difference is visible immediately, although there is some swelling the first few days. With summer just around the corner, I am seeing more of a focus on body contouring and have three new devices to hit the market: UltraShape, ZWave and the Futura Ultratone.

3. During a consultation you use BeautiPHIcation, a facial mapping tool technique based on Leonardo Da Vinci’s mathematical principle of divine proportion. Can you share this process and how it is beneficial?

BeautiPHIcation was pioneered by Dr. Arthur Swift, a Canadian dermatologist, and takes the concept of divine proportion and turns it into a medical approach to non-surgical enhancement. I use a caliper measuring tool, similar to the one used by the Renaissance master Da Vinci, which maps out the injection of cosmetic injectables and dermal fillers with the precision necessary to enhance features and restore smooth contours. Using this technique, I’m able to maximize a person’s beauty potential by restoring symmetry, harmony and balance.

4. Can you share some of your favorite products?

Skinfluence Alpha Cleanser contains papaya extract, which is a very gentle enzyme that helps keep skin smooth and beautiful. SkinMedica TNS Essential Serum contains a blend of growth factors, anti-oxidants and essential nutrients to promote collagen and rejuvenate. Nectifirm by Revision is my go to neck and décolleté cream, which contains peptides to firm and tighten, vitamins C and E and botanical ingredients. My new favorite eye cream is the DEJ Eye Cream by Revision Skincare.  It rejuvenates with peptides, brightens with vitamin C, has antioxidant benefits and helps with puffiness. I also like Neocutis Lumiere Riche Eye Cream. It targets all of the eye area concerns to rejuvenate, de-puff, soothe and hydrate. Clinically proven PSP jump starts the body’s collagen for younger looking eyes in just six weeks.

5. Do you have a specific beauty routine?

I prefer simplicity to complicated routines and love products that can multitask. I cleanse in the morning and evening with Skinfluence Alpha Cleanser. I apply TNS Essential Serum twice a day and Revision DEJ eye cream in the morning and evening. In the morning, I apply Revitalash Advanced, and in the evening I use Latisse on my lashes. For sun protection and a light foundation, I use Intellishade, which has technology that helps the color adapt to the skin tone and I also touch up with Colorescience Sunforgettable Powder. I use Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Shower Gel and Lanvin’s Arpege d’Eclat Body Cream to create my own “signature” scent. And for hair, I love Kerastase Densifique Bain Densite Bodifying Shampoo and Kerastase Initialiste Advanced Scalp and Hair Concentrate (Leave-In). I also use the Desnifique Hair Mask weekly.

6. What is the biggest complaint from your patients?

Lines and wrinkles are always the number one concern, followed by dark spots and uneven tone and texture. Both are directly linked to lack of sunscreen because back in the ’70s and early ’80s we were not as conscious about applying sunscreen and the formulas were not as cosmetically elegant as they are today. Body contouring is now becoming very big due to the new non-invasive technologies that have become available.

7. Are you doing much more fillers and Botox now than you were five years ago?

Absolutely! We have a wider selection of neurotoxins and fillers today than we had five years ago. I’m also seeing patients in their early 20s for neurotoxin injections as a preventative treatment. Lips are also very popular regardless of age.

8. You are so fit and run a busy practice. How do you stay in shape?

I hate exercise. I would prefer to use something like the Futura Ultratone, which not only melts fat but stimulates the muscles to reshape. But exercise is important to overall health, so I have a personal trainer to torture me on a regular basis and I do yoga for relaxation. I try to eat as healthy as possible with lean protein, fruits and vegetables and on the weekends, I like to indulge my guilty pleasure with good food and cocktails. Everything in moderation!

9. If you were not a dermatologist, what would you be?

I would work in fashion or become a sculptor. I love attending Fashion Week in NYC and I take sculpting classes in my spare time.

10. Where are your favorite places to travel and why?

I love Italy and France for the food, fashion and art. For more exotic trips, I prefer Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand. And for some R&R, I like Turks & Caicos, which has the most beautiful blue water and white sand.
