A Few Random Things About Me

Instead of a post on a new beauty product or recent getaway, I decided to do this little fun fact piece because I don’t divulge too much on this platform or on social media and feel it would be great for any readers to get to know me a bit more. I definitely came to this whole social media world a little late in the game, and at first was a little afraid to put myself out there, but I always created content and love sharing it with others. It’s what I do best.

So, here are a few fun random facts, which may give you a better idea of me and my life behind this blog.

I’m 42 years old although I still feel like I’m 32 and share a birthday with some famous people such as former President Barack Obama.  A lot of people tell me they think I look younger than I really am, which is flattering and hope they still they same when I hit 50.

Summer is my favorite season by far. Everyone right now is going crazy over autumn, but I’m the happiest in the summer for sure.

I traveled all over the world for when I was a travel editor and got to visit some of the most amazing places and meet the best people. I miss that job so much, but was so fortunate to have those experiences that I’ll never forget. And, when I travel now, which is not as often, I’m often the happiest person even if it’s just for a day excursion.

I am a mom to two boys. Jake just turned 13 this week and Dylan turns 10 on Halloween. It took me months to grasp and a little bout of depression that I was entering the next phase of motherhood and that my kids are no longer so little.  I always said I was going to start a family when I was 30, but just a little shy of that I had Jake. I’ve learned over the years there is no right time to start a family except for when you are ready, and you don’t need to follow the same plan as everyone else.

Yes, I’m married and he is a great guy.  But, he doesn’t like to be photographed and doesn’t want to be out there on social media or on the blog. I do make him take some pictures of me since he has a great eye, but he definitely tries to stay out of my social media life as much as possible.

I’m a last-minute planner and while it can sometimes be stressful, I find it always works out and is often more fun and spontaneous than some planned gatherings.

I’m so fortunate to have freelance gigs and get to write about some wonderful people and places, but I miss working in an office with a team and collaborating. I definitely thrive in an environment like that and found being freelance all the time is isolating. But, it does have its perks like being able to drop in on my kids at school and go to fun workout classes that work around my schedule.

I prefer the city over the suburbs and NYC is my favorite.  I grew up in a New York City suburb and always went to the city as a kid.  After college, I moved there and never wanted to be anywhere else.  Not many people are city people, but there is something about it that energizes me and makes me feel like anything is possible. I love all the different neighborhoods, the great restaurants, the diversity and style.

I never imagined I would end up living in the smallest state, but I do like it. It’s been three years and I met some great people. It’s a beautiful little state with some fun, cool pockets, and not too far from Boston and NYC if I need a big city fix.

Why the name Wander + Lash?  Well, the Wander part is for my travel editorial days and Lash is for my days as a beauty editor and freelance writer covering the topic.  I wanted to think of something snappy, fun and memorable, but was also my two passions at the time. Truthfully, sometimes I think about changing the name of the blog, but a lot of people like it, so for now it’s here to stay
