Why You Need to Start Wearing Pearls

I was never really into wearing pearls. I always preferred 14-karat gold jewelry or a pair of diamond studs, but I did think pearls were sophisticated and classy.  I bought my first pearl bracelet in St. Barts a few years ago and love it.  It is more casual and features a leather strap with a single grey pearl. I wore it nonstop and it has more of a boho feel to it than one that is preppy.

Pearls are often associated with the country club set, but today they are designed to be more laid back and stylish. I actually love how I’ve been seeing pearls done in petite or large sizes and mixed with gold for more of a cool, boho look. One of my favorite ways to get into this pearl trend is with a pair of earrings. A chandelier style or cool hoop accented with pearls is a great way to add them in to your wardrobe, but in that chic, modern way.

I just snatched up these affordable Shashi hoop earrings that look great with a cozy knit or a chic blouse (I’m wearing them in the pic above).  The thin hoop and petite pearls make it really wearable and more fun, not stuffy like Grandma. One of my fave brands at Target makes a cute drop earring with pearls and the price can’t be beat. Not sure if they will tarnish or irritate ears (mine are super-sensitive), but they are on-trend and fun for day or night. These cute layered mini pearl hoops from J.Crew are small, but make a big impact.  I love how these can be beachy and great for vacation, but also polished for business meetings. A big pearl hoop is so in right now and it’s definitely a statement maker. I love these gold-plated hoops that are not too oversized, but just right from Chan Luu. For those that prefer an edgy look, these gold, pearl and diamond chain stud earrings by Zoe Chicco are the perfect modern mix and would look great with t-shirts and denim or even a pretty silk dress. I’m all about mixing a gold hoop with pearls for everyday and really into these simple gold plated and pearl earrings by one of my favorite fashion jewelry brands Shashi.

And, you can’t forget about necklaces, bracelets and rings.  Zara just launched a new collection and this necklace looks like a total showstopper with metal and pearl details.  A pretty pendant with both gold and pearl in an organic shape like this one from  Alighieri would look great with a v-neck and buttondown shirts. I’m a big fan of stacking bracelets so I love this delicate gold plated and pearl bracelet to work with layering other pieces. If you want more of statement go for a bracelet with large freshwater pearls that will work now through the summer and adds a pop of sophistication to any outfit. And, lastly adding subtle pearl accents to the hands could be so chic as long as it’s done right.  I love the open shape on this 14-karat gold and pearl ring by Poppy Finch and how it would blend in with other pieces.
