As you may have noticed, I have been a little more quiet on here. Six months into this pandemic has definitely started to wear on me. I know I’m not the only one who is feeling this and most of us are trying to adapt to our new normal. It’s a strange time and I know I have so much to be grateful for, which is why I feel silly when I get in a funk.
My creativity has been challenged more than ever the past few months and it has caused me to really look at things in a different way. Meeting new people, trying a new restaurant, finding a cute shop and traveling to pretty places have always fueled my creativity and given me joy. I miss those things a lot and I’m trying to find other ways to fuel that spark, but it’s taking some time.
Summer is always a happy time, and while this one has been pretty good, it still feels off. Some days, I feel like I havenโt done much at all, and other times it feels I did a lot. I know people who have postponed summer trips and I know that some have been constantly traveling. Now that you have more travel restrictions, I have been staying local, but I also sprinkled in some short trips that have been giving me life.
One of my favorite summer escapes is Block Island. I booked a quick two-day trip and we brought our bikes, swam in the ocean, ate dinner at The Oar and caught up with good friends and their children. It felt normal again and brought joy to each one of us. I think that is what I am seeking more than everโjoy and connection in a time that is so unpredictable.
Another spot I went to was a beach town in Long Island, New York. I spent time during my childhood here and it’s where my sister and her family lives. My sister’s house is right across the beach and there’s a long boardwalk to ride bikes, run or walk. It’s so lively and has a great summer vibe.
Here’s some pics from our visit to Block Island and Long Beach, New York (I grew up spending time here). If you want more info check out my Guide to Block Island.

I also took a drive to visit my sister in Long Beach, a beach town in the South Shore of Long Island. I forgot how much I missed visiting this place and even better that I got to see my family again.
